Domaine de la citadelle The Domaine of La Citadelle was created in 1990 by Yves Rousset-Rouard from an old « mas » and its 8 ha of vineyards located in the back of the village of Ménerbes. Having built a wine process room (with stainless steels tanks) and a wine ageing room (with oak barrels), he produces its 1st vintage wine year in 1992. Today, the Domaine groups 39 ha of vineyards, distributed on 60 plots of lands with 14 different varieties of grapes, quite worked in a constant concern of balance and quality. Very attached to its country and to the typicality of its naming (AOP LUBERON), a big care was brought to the quality of the grape planting: Syrah and Grenache constituting the base of the Domaine, on which it are added Roussane, Viognier, Mourvèdre or Cinsault. Grounds ( Lauze, Rocky mass of fallen rocks) gets for wines: structure, freshness and tension. In the course of biological conversion, the culture of the vineyards is based on the environmental protection and the balance (without weed killers nor artificial fertilizers) Benefiting from the natural slope of the hill on which is built the cellar, all the operations (of the reception of the harvest in the bottling) are made by gravity. The cellar of wine making is constituted by stainless thermo-regulated tanks allowing a constant control of the temperatures during the fermentations. The ageing room is equipped with barrels and trunks and with lightnings resulting from coopers selected for their serious work, their selection of wood (oak) and the precision of their stocking. The Domaine produces 180 000 bottles a year: 60% of red, 20% of white and rosé. We export 25% of the production: essentially in the USA, japan, China, GB, Belgium, Germany. Within the Domaine, the Corkscrew Museum has more than 1200 pieces on exhibition, from the 17th century up to the present day. Starting with the 1st corkscrew forget by hand in steel, to the decorative “objet d’art”in solid gold, let yourself be guided through the centuries and across countries in the discovery of this unique collection. In the Museum shop, you will find a selection of corkscrews, souvenirs, gifts and books about wine and Provence.
